The Sporades Islands are located northeast of the island of Evia and southeast of the Pelion Peninsula. The complex consists of eleven islands but only 4 of them are inhabited: Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros.
Sporades means “scattered” and comes from the Greek “Sporeas” (spor-ay-as) which means sowing seeds. It is easy to understand why the ancients referred to the Aegean islands in this way, appearing as they do to germinate randomly, as if they had sprouted from a handful of seeds scattered from the mainland. The Sporades islands are popular tourist destinations, attracting a large number of tourists each year. All the Sporades are characterized by lush vegetation, which often reaches the coast and the beautiful sandy beaches. The harmonious combination of sea and mountain creates an incomparable backdrop of charm. The endless natural beauties, the dense forests, the lacy beaches, the protected coves, the crystal blue-green waters, the idyllic landscapes, the typical island architecture, the castles and the picturesque churches fascinate every visitor.
